Event Details

This workforce summit has been convened jointly by the national learning disability nursing task and finish group (Transforming Care Programme) and the London and the South East region of Health Education England. There are major challenges and opportunities facing learning disability nursing as part of the wider workforce caring for people with learning disabilities. We want to work with you to address these and to ensure the best possible future care and support for people with learning disabilities and/or autism.

We welcome all stakeholders to join this summit who are concerned about the future sustainability and development of specialist learning disability nursing and the broader general nursing care of people with learning disabilities and/or autism in health and social care settings.

The key purpose of the event is to discuss and agree local and regional priorities and actions, and to contribute to national strategic actions, that will value, sustain and develop learning disability nursing for the future.

Who should attend?

Learning disability nurses and nurse leaders, nurse education providers, workforce planners, NHS providers and social care providers, third sector providers, CCG leads, service users and carers, professional organisations.

Objectives for the Day

  • To bring together all learning nursing disability workforce stakeholders in the region and to share information and data about the current challenges and opportunities facing us
  • To provide an opportunity for sharing examples within the region of positive workforce developments in relation to learning disability nursing
  • To explore and develop together clear regional and local priorities and actions
  • To influence the national approach to learning disability workforce development and to contribute new ideas and options for meeting the workforce demand

The output from the workforce summit will be used to inform a national report to the Transforming Care Programme Board and Health Education England.
